I’m delighted to have my work selected for the Pastel Society UK Annual Exhibition again this year. In the last six months or so I’ve been working almost exclusively in dry media – charcoal, graphite, pastel – and I’ve been heavily influenced by Cy Twombly and Ffiona Lewis. Experimenting with mark-making and scratches into the surface of the paper has thrown out some interesting results. Erasing the marks has also been hugely important as it reveals layers and creates a kind of ghostly resonance. The Pastel Society exhibition will showcase two brand new works which encompass these recent working methods, and runs from 24th February to 7th March, Mall Galleries, London.
