Unie (United) II
£425.00
This original acrylic, ink, charcoal and graphite collage was one of three I created for a special exhibition ‘L’art pour la paix en Europe’ (‘Art for Peace in Europe’) which took place in Pornic, Brittany, France in 2023. I was invited to participate alongside 17 other artists from Pornic, Linz (Germany), Baiona (Spain), Omegna (Italy) and Scarborough (UK) to creatively respond to the concept of peace and unity across our European borders.
Maps can be a useful tool to show topography but they also symbolise division of land, people, culture and language – I’ve used collaged map fragments together with handwritten (in my best handwriting!) collections of European countries, towns, regions, etc. in these artworks to explore the concept of an integrated landscape, in which we are intertwined and united by common bonds we all share as humans first and foremost. We strive for understanding and empathy for our fellow men and women – can it be possible?
Framed in a high quality wood frame with a grey finish. Artwork size: 30 x 30cm (excluding frame).
