A few years ago I spent some very enjoyable time in Scotland – I climbed Ben Nevis, explored Glen Nevis, visited the Isle of Skye, and tried to absorb as much of the beautiful rugged landscape as I could. There is a palpable sense of history in these places, both in terms of the geological landscape itself and those hardy souls who have inhabited it throughout the ages. This year I’ve made artworks inspired by the stunning scenery I experienced and these works are now on show in my second solo exhibition at Birch Tree Gallery, in the heart of Edinburgh’s art district.
During my trip I was in awe of the scale of these mountainous landscapes and the rich textures they offered. The wild weather, too, was inspiring and I loved that feeling of being out in the elements – this is something I sought to capture while making the work. I hope to return to the Highlands sometime soon and make many more artworks – I know I will never be short of inspiration.
